Dead Rising Movie Comes to Theaters This Spring
After achieving a solid success in the gaming industry, Dead Rising franchise is preparing its contender in the film industry, as well. Famous zombie-fighting action moves to the live-action, and will arrive this spring.
A live-action movie, based on the Dead Rising series, named Dead Rising: Watchtower will be released this spring, more precisely on March 27, 2015 via Sony Picture Televisions streaming service Crackle. After its premiere on Crackle, the zombie-killing movie will be released on other digital streaming services and physical media. Interestingly, some streaming services will split this movie into a few episodes, instead of offering the full movie at once. The movie is said to be “Indiana Jones with zombies,” according to its idea-creator Capcom games.
The movie will be directed by Zach Lipovsky, who already directed a couple of successful horror movies, such as Leprechaun: Origins. The movie features actors such as Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die, Desperate Housewives, Dallas), Meghan Ory (Once Upon A Time, Intelligence), Virginia Madsen (Sideways, Candyman, The Number 23)and Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit). Comedian Rob Riggle will also star in the movie as the weathered photo-photo journalist, Frank West. The script is written by Sleeping Dogs writer, Tim Carter. The movie is produced by Godzilla and Warcraft studio Legendary Entertainment’s TV and Digital Media division.
Just like the game, Watchtower takes place during a zombie apocalypse. After government’s unsuccessful try to stop the infection from spreading with a vaccine, four survivors will fight their way to stop the epidemic and to survive, as well.
This is the first live-action movie in the Dead Rising franchise. Before the movie, eight Dead Rising titles were released on various platforms, starting with 2006’s Dead Rising. The most recent game of the franchise is Dead Rising 3, released in 2013.
