A director of “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” Paul Feig confirmed via his Twitter account that the new “Ghostbusters” movie is in the development.  He announced that the movie won’t be just a remake, and that it will feature women protagonists.

He will write the script for the movie along with “The Heat” and “Parks and Recreation” writer Katie Dippold.  He said on Twitter: “It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call.”

Appearance of women as the main characters doesn’t simply mean replacing the original cast with their female colleagues, neither will it be a sequel. According to an earlier reports and rumors, the script for the movie will be written from scratch and this film should be the complete reboot of the franchise.

In an interview with Schmoes Know, original Ghostbuster Bill Murray said, “It sounds great to me. It sounds as good an idea as any other! There are a lot of women that could scare off any kind of vapor! No, it’s a grande idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea, I would watch it! I mean, I love Robert Palmer’s videos, so why wouldn’t I love the female Ghostbusters?”

Just as a reminder, in the original movie, Bill Murray played the role of Dr. Peter Venkman , along with his fellow Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), was a professional ghost catcher.

The first “Ghostbusters” movie was released in 1984, and the sequel, “Ghostbusters II” came in 1989. Creators were talking about the third installment at the time, but it just remained to be a rumor.

Harold Ramis, who also co-wrote the screenplay of the original “Ghostbusters” films died in February this year, and dircetor Ivan Reitman decided not to work on the upcoming project.
